Axial: https://linktr.ee/axialxyz
Axial partners with great founders and inventors. We invest in early-stage life sciences companies such as Appia Bio, Seranova Bio, Delix Therapeutics, Simcha Therapeutics, among others often when they are no more than an idea. We are fanatical about helping the rare inventor who is compelled to build their own enduring business. If you or someone you know has a great idea or company in life sciences, Axial would be excited to get to know you and possibly invest in your vision and company . We are excited to be in business with you — email us at info@axialvc.com
Jean-Philippe Vert is the chief R&D officer at Owkin, an AI biotech company that uses artificial intelligence to match patients to treatments. Before joining Owkin in 2022, he was a research scientist at Google Brain (2018-2022), where he led a research team working on core machine learning and computational biology, and helped start the Paris lab. Before Google, Jean-Philippe had been a research professor at ENS Paris’ mathematics Department (2016-2018); among other academic positions since ~2000.
His research includes the development of statistical and machine learning methods, particularly to model complex, high-dimensional and structured data, with a focus on computational biology, genomics and precision medicine. His contributions include new mathematical approaches and computational methods to learn from structured data such as strings or graphs, regularization techniques to learn from limited amounts of data, and computationally efficient techniques for pattern detection, feature selection and end-to-end optimization of complex models.
He has worked on medical applications in cancer research including quantifying and modeling cancer heterogeneity, predicting response to therapy, and modeling the genome and epigenome of cancer cells at the single-cell level.
