Element Biosciences
Surveying great inventors and businesses
Axial: https://linktr.ee/axialxyz
Axial partners with great founders and inventors. We invest in early-stage life sciences companies such as Appia Bio, Seranova Bio, Delix Therapeutics, Simcha Therapeutics, among others often when they are no more than an idea. We are fanatical about helping the rare inventor who is compelled to build their own enduring business. If you or someone you know has a great idea or company in life sciences, Axial would be excited to get to know you and possibly invest in your vision and company . We are excited to be in business with you - email us at info@axialvc.com
Element Biosciences decentralizes sequencing. Founded in 2017 by Molly He, Matt Kellinger, & Michael Previte after working together at Illumina, Element built a benchtop sequencer from the ground up centered around new chemistry to reduce reagent use by ~100x.
Element passes on these savings to customers. Their AVITI benchtop instrument is priced at $289K similar to Illumina’s MiniSeq with capabilities closer to NextSeq: 2 x 150 paired end read length & 1B (240 Gb) paired end reads/flow cell costing $5-$7/Gb run https://www.elementbiosciences.com/resources
They differentiate themselves on GTM. Partnering with >10 companies at product launch from Roche to Qiagen. Element was founded to help scientists to do more with their resources. On this, they are expanding the sequencing market & chipping away at Illumina’s >75% market share.
The founders originally thought of starting a reagents company, but realized they could expand sequencing applications as a tools company, take on Illumina, & increase access to these technologies. Element is hiring here: https://www.elementbiosciences.com/careers/openings
